Desperate Housewives是女人必看的一部剧，同时也是男人必看的一部剧。剧中每个角色都被编剧赋予了一个正常人所具备的各种品性，善良、邪恶、慷慨、自私、宽容、小气，等等，并将它们放大到富有喜剧效果。从任何一个人身上我们都能看到人类光明温暖的一面，同时也有阴暗冷酷的一面（值得一提的是，阴暗的一面往往也是为了他们所爱的人的幸福，或者自己免受伤害而表现出来的），令我们又爱又恨，这是何等的真实！我们生活在跟Desperate Housewives一样的世界里，尽管夸张，很多时候我们自己就是那剧中的人。

事实上，这首小诗本身就是一个传奇。在国外的葬礼上、或是纪念战争的追思会上往往都可以听到它被朗诵。它有很多个版本，至于哪个版本是首创，众说纷纭；甚至对于它的原作者，也存在争议。因为从开始到现在，它就没有被正式出版过。
为了证实这首小诗的出处，有人专门做过调查研究，从目前已有的证据来看，生于美国巴尔的摩的Mary Elizabeth Frye (1905-2004)最有可能是它的作者。据说当时Mary Frye的一位朋友的母亲去世了，这位朋友是德国籍犹太人，在那段特殊的历史时期无法回去尽孝。朋友的遭遇点燃了她的灵感，尽管自称是第一次真正尝试写诗，这首Do not stand at my grave and weep却在后来感动和安慰了无数人。又过了一段时间，那个德国家族的一些朋友把这首小诗印刷到明信片上使用，通过这种比传统的印刷出版更有利于person to person传播的“虚拟出版”，它得以广泛使用。当然，这种传播方式带来的结果也是显而易见的：一方面无法认定最初的起源，另一方面也衍生出了各种不同的版本。直到1998年，才第一次有人正式宣布了Do not stand at my grave and weep的起源——Abigail Van Buren等人的研究结果表明，它的作者是Mary Frye。
