When I saw Melissa giving her first kiss and virginity to Daniel as a proof (or a gift? A sacrifice?) of her love, when I saw her coming to meet Daniel’s friend which ended in being raped by five of his fellows, I could not help wanting to hug her and talk with her, about e.g. kiss/sex ideally is something enjoyed by both party of the lovers rather than a gift offered by one party to his/her beloved, and about e.g. never abuse trust. Though actually in the field of love, let alone sex, I confessed myself as ignorant and nervous as the 16 year old Melissa, yet anyway age has not been increased in vain.

However, I now tend to believe that some moments in life are so UNTALKABLE that can only be lived and endured by oneself alone. Melissa has a wise and sensitive grandma who she emotionally clings to and trusts in, she also has a best friend, yet she talked to none of them. And she wrote diaries, day after day, pages and pages, to which she poured her untellable loneliness. Such untellable loneliness is the most moving to me, perhaps simply because I myself has been going through some loss, the loneliness of which is similarly so.

(And her mother’s sudden change into a good listener and supporter at the end of the movie is completely untrue in both logic and feelings…)
