与众寡合的，独自寻求心愿， 并恼恨一切真智慧。 愚昧人不喜爱明哲， 只喜爱显露心意。 恶人来，藐视随来； 羞耻到，辱骂同到。 人口中的言语如同深水； 智慧的泉源好像涌流的河水。 瞻徇恶人的情面， 偏断义人的案件，都为不善。 愚昧人张嘴启争端， 开口招鞭打。 愚昧人的口自取败坏； 他的嘴是他生命的网罗。 传舌人的言语如同美食， 深入人的心腹。 做工懈怠的， 与浪费人为弟兄。 耶和华的名是坚固台； 义人奔入便得安稳。 富足人的财物是他的坚城， 在他心想，犹如高墙。 败坏之先，人心骄傲； 尊荣以前，必有谦卑。 未曾听完先回答的， 便是他的愚昧和羞辱。 人有疾病，心能忍耐； 心灵忧伤，谁能承当呢？ 聪明人的心得知识； 智慧人的耳求知识。 人的礼物为他开路， 引他到高位的人面前。 先诉情由的，似乎有理； 但邻舍来到，就察出实情。 掣签能止息争竞， 也能解散强胜的人。 弟兄结怨， 劝他和好 ，比取坚固城还难； 这样的 争竞如同坚寨的门闩。 人口中所结的果子，必充满肚腹； 他嘴所出的，必使他饱足。 生死在舌头的权下， 喜爱它的，必吃它所结的果子。 得着 贤 妻的，是得着好处， 也是蒙了耶和华的恩惠。 贫穷人说哀求的话； 富足人用威吓的话回答。 滥交朋友的，自取败坏； 但有一朋友比弟兄更亲密。
（An unfriendly person pursues selfish ends and against all sound judgment starts quarrels. Fools find no pleasure in understanding but delight in airing their own opinions. When wickedness comes, so does contempt, and with shame comes reproach. The words of the mouth are deep waters, but the fountain of wisdom is a rushing stream. It is not good to be partial to the wicked and so deprive the innocent of justice. The lips of fools bring them strife, and their mouths invite a beating. The mouths of fools are their undoing, and their lips are a snare to their very lives. The words of a gossip are like choice morsels; they go down to the inmost parts. One who is slack in his work is brother to one who destroys. The name of the Lord is a fortified tower; the righteous run to it and are safe. The wealth of the rich is their fortified city; they imagine it a wall too high to scale. Before a downfall the heart is haughty, but humility comes before honor. To answer before listening— that is folly and shame. The human spirit can endure in sickness, but a crushed spirit who can bear? The heart of the discerning acquires knowledge, for the ears of the wise seek it out. A gift opens the way and ushers the giver into the presence of the great. In a lawsuit the first to speak seems right, until someone comes forward and cross-examines. Casting the lot settles disputes and keeps strong opponents apart. A brother wronged is more unyielding than a fortified city; disputes are like the barred gates of a citadel. From the fruit of their mouth a person’s stomach is filled; with the harvest of their lips they are satisfied. The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit. He who finds a wife finds what is good and receives favor from the Lord. The poor plead for mercy, but the rich answer harshly. One who has unreliable friends soon comes to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.）
