This is a simple but shocking film. On one hand, I am shocked that Samira was only 17 when she made this film. On the other hand, I am astonished hat this film was based on a piece of real news. Also, I am surprised how Iranian people were fond of films. It seems to me that they never refuse to act in a film. Besides Samira’s The Apple, many Iranian films use non-actors, such as Close-up. In The Apple, even though it is a shame, or at least not a glory, the father still acts himself out. I wonder whether it is the director’s capability to persuade or the Iranian people’s fond of acting that contributes to such a unique form of film. I can never imagine this will happen in China partly because Chinese are very shy or not as outspoken as Iranians. Also, Chinese may think locking daughters at home is so ashamed that they don’t want other people know. I wonder how Iranians respond to my Chinese perspectives. It would be very interesting to notice the difference of two cultures, especially in terms of cinema.
