这个纪录片从人类的角度探讨了狗这个物种与我们特有的关系,和很多其他的纪录片很不同,大多数动物纪录片倾向于提供一个“客观的”动物自在的描述,而不倾向于牵扯人类。这部的落脚点却在人-狗关系上,一方面是狗与人之间的其他动物所没有的特殊关系,另一方面是狗和人的共同进化与文明演进
后一方面在我看来是这部纪录片非常独特并且极具价值的思考切入点,当我们以一种分类学的“科学”口吻来谈论物种时我们“万物之灵”的自傲将我们突出为一种自在的超越万物的生灵,而完全以他者姿态接受其他物种,这种自傲无视了人类演进过程中的物种协同,设想没有狗、马、牛以及各种家禽人类还会是今天的人类吗?
于是,在生物意义上和符号意义上,许多物种本质上并非独立于人类,而人类更加不能独立于这些物种
