There’s much taboo love in the world, they are the stubborn insistence that not accepted by the world.
The story of the Scarlet Letter happened in a British colony in the Mussachusetts bay. There lived a lot of English who obeyed the rules seriously with solidified thought. Hester came the oppressive colony ahead of her husband, Mr.Prynne. Having wrongly known her husband was killed by the native Indian, Hester quickly developed her relationship with the local pastor, Arthur, who had fallen love with her. However, Hester was found to be pregnant by the local officials. In order to protect her lover, Hester bore the cold eyes and abuse of the world alone. The scarlet letter ‘A’, remarked that she was disloyal, was brutally nailed to her body. Fortunately, the story had a happy ending. In the war between the English colonist and the native Indian, the Hester survived, they went to a place where there was no person knew them and spent the rest of their life together.
There is no doubt that the love between Hester and Arthur is taboo. A married woman’s love with a pastor would never be admitted by the obstinate Englishmen. Hester and Arthur knew the love was wrong, too. But the question was that the love had happened and there was no way to change or purge it. Maybe the first sight in the mountains, maybe the surprise in the church, or maybe the true meet in the books they exchanged, they just fell in love with each other. To Arthur, Hester was the warm wind in the mountains, the quiet morning by the window. As for Hester, Arthur was the bright sun in the sky, the starry stars in the night. As was destined, they would meet, and they would be in love with each other. They were not wrong, they just tried to love.
Nevertheless, love is never a thing just between two people. The christians in England would never tolerate the adultery to take place in the land they ruled. And the scarlet letter was the moral standard that shaped their love. It seems that christians and traditional Chinese Neo-Confucianism have something in common in the aspect. In the end of Song dynasty and the beginning of Ming dynasty,Chinese neo-confucianism thought prevailed, the thought was serious rigid.In their opinions, it's a small matter of a woman starving to death, but a big one of disloyalty. Do not approve of the widow remarry, and add woman morality to limit. As far as I’m concerned, morality is indeed an indispensable thing. Human beings need morality to maintain the civilized order of the world. But when morality has become a tool that can be used to kill in the hands of some people, who also deliberately stand on the moral high ground to impose crimes on others, then morality has gone completely bad. Hearst and Arthur's love affair, which took place after everyone thought her husband had died, however, was regarded by the world as a monstrous crime, it’s laughably abhorrent.
