How to define a good doctor? A man with high mastery of medical skills? A girl who can relieve patients in confusion and scare? Typically we define it as someone that rescues patients from pain, bleeding or even proximity to death. We respect them, we admire them, but also we should know doctor is just a job, no different from a office worker, a bank clerk or a bus driver essentially, which means they do things that look significant to patients just because they need to make their own living.
I'm saying that not because I'm cynical or trying to be different. Actually, after watching this drama, I have learnt more about this profession, especially the work of a surgeon. They live under high pressure, familiar with lurid blood and white sheets. Any operation with a little bit mistake could lead to a big disaster to a family. Any screaming of a machine may foretell the loss of a vivid person. Everyone struggles here, no one wants to die. Sometimes life just punches you on your back, you yell, you complain, but finally you can do nothing but accept your distinctive fate. And doctors, they are like angles, accompanying you alongside, reading a spell and hopefully showing their magic.
Shaun undoubtedly plays this role well. Autism deprives him from communicating and behaving like a normal person, but entitles him with astonishing medical talent at the same time. He has nothing to with the underlying fight for power in this hospital. He can never understand the manipulation performed on colleagues but not on the patients. He treats every patient in his room equally whatever their age, race or status. Personal affairs can seldom affect him in the operating room. Of course everyone makes mistakes, but Shaun will never deny or refuse to take the responsibility.
Doctors are angles played by human. They surly have some upsides as well as downsides that anyone may be trapped in. And that's why after accepting this rule, doctors like Shaun will stand out as a shining example.
