1918年，加拿大某村庄，小女孩奥若蕾（Marianne Fortier 饰）的母亲玛丽安（Hélène Bourgeois Leclerc 饰）感染肺结核，病入膏肓。她的父亲（Serge Postigo 饰）非但没有对妻子表现出应有的关心，反而和表妹（Stéphanie Lapointe 饰）勾搭成奸。不久，玛丽安在愤怒和忧郁中死去，父亲旋即与表妹成亲。 三个姐妹兄弟中，奥若蕾对父亲和继母尤其抵触。父亲忙于工作，对家事鲜少过问。而奥若蕾和继母的矛盾则不断加深，继母从最初的体罚，逐渐演变成赤裸裸的虐待。娇弱的小女孩命悬一线…… 本片根据真实事件改编。After the sudden death of her mother, Aurore Gagnon is abused by her disturbed step-mother as her town remains in the silence followed by her death.
