I am speechless.
The Summer Olympics 2008 Opening Ceremony is absolutely amazing. I am proud to be a Chinese, with our rich culture and civilization of over 5000 years.
Mr Zhang Yimou, I applaud you for the spectacular Opening Ceremony for the Beijing Olympics. The amount of creativity for the ceremony is overflowing, showcasing the Pride of the Chinese to the very fullest. It is truly a bravura passage, a showcase of the Chinese Culture in all her splendour!
It is full of epic 1337 awesomeness that netizens can't even describe.
Most notably in my list during the performance is the Music, Silk Road, Chinese Painting and Starlight, including the proud Great 4 Inventions of China.
I particularly like Silk Road. Trust me, all those guys holding on to those "paddles" have to be very strong to lift them. The paddles showing illustrations of ships act as both the waves and the movements of the ships, as they export silk and Chinese tea to the West.
Anyway, I am glad that Zhang Yimou is the producer of the performances, because who else can be better at delivering the History of China than him?
The theme of the Beijing Olympics is Harmony. Harmony is China's dominant ideology and is persistent throughout the Chinese culture. The performance also showcases the elements of the three major religions of China(Confucianism, Taoism, Bhuddism) perfectly complementing each other, thus producing Harmony. The spectacular choreography of the 56 ethnic groups in China displaying their most colourful feature of each group will overwhelm you.
During the performance of the Painting Scroll, there were many people with the brush as their hat and the many words formed on the scroll with humans inside boxes. My, that one was plain epic. The music is melodious solemn and displays the courtly grandeur while the voices of many people ...speaking together shows awesome harmony. However the funniest part of the performance was when the camera zoomed in to some of the brush-hat men and one of them was continuously shifting his eyes, like a cautious, sly fox. The atmosphere was almost like your average award-winning movie.

Ah, not to mention that in every single mox, there are people. They cannot see anything outside the box and would not know if they made a mistake. The only thing that they can depend on is their intuition and after heaps of practicing. Almost perfected, the reason why I said this was that there was a small part where a box lagged behind a little.
The boxes created waves and chinese lettering. The result of years(few) of practice.
Not that the 15'000 performers mind. This is their glory and honour to be part of the Beijing Olympics performance. The 7 years of preparation and planning was definitely worth it.
I only commented on the performance, because I fell asleep halfway throgh the Atheletes' Entry.
In other words, it is a grand success.This opening ceremony will be etched into the minds of the World for a long time.
