Lucky to encounter this film at the right stage, where I have had my first taste in the field of IR theories. My professor introduced it in class to illustrate the concept of Realism and undoubtedly Jack represents for Radical Realism. However I find the very way of how the story goes is ambiguously (or explicitly) intentional with the look of human nature that William Golding choose to see. Plus, objectivity is associated with masculinity. Human nature is both masculine and feminine. What if there was a group of girls on the island? I however believe there is a third approach. Just like John Herz writes in Political Realism and Political Idealism, “The human cause will be lost if the liberal ideal is forgotten, even as surely as it is lost if left to the utopian Political Idealists.”
